Chapter 10

Chapter 10

I woke up to a sharp pain in my back. At first I assumed WingClaw decided to get a early start, and fly me all the way to SpiritPecker's nest, instead of waiting for me to wake up. But I looked up, and WingClaw wasn't there, a hawk was.
"Heyyy, ummm... WHO THE TICK ARE YOU?!?!?!?!" He gave me an amused look.
"Fiesty, eh?" My eyes darted to the ground, which was now at least 70 feet below me.
"Where are you taking me?! WHO ARE YOU?!" I screeched. His grip on my back tightened as I struggled to free myself.
"I'm Jazel. Hired by BranchWorm, to take you and your friend back...to be punished."
"WAIT, your a girl..?" my mind whirred in confusion.
"No. It's pronounced JAY-zel... But that's besides the point. Does it really matter?" He said irritated.
"Yes, yes it does. Do you want me to go the rest of my life thinking you're a girl?" I retorted.
"Fine. Truce." He grumbled. "So where's your friend?"
  "WingClaw?" I questioned.
"Yes, of course." He said impatiently as he studied my face.
"Oh, um... he um..." I did a fake sob. "died. It's so tragic!" I sobbed. (Of course WingClaw wasn't dead, but I couldn't just blurt out where he was... even though I have no idea where he is.)
  "Oh good!" he happily cawed.
"WHAT?!?! YOU HAVE SO MANY TICKING ISSUES IN THAT GIGANTIC HEAD OF Y-"
"I WASN'T SAYING GOOD FOR YOUR BENEFIT!! I DON'T HAVE TO TRACK HIM DOWN ANYMORE!!!!" He angrily sneered.
"Oh." was all I could say. (I mean I can't say sorry. He's flying me to my death for pete-sake!) But where was WingClaw?

I woke up and fluttered to FeatherFlight's room to say Good Morning. But something was wrong. I could feel it. I cracked the door open and peered inside. She was gone, without a trace. I knew she hadn't left me. Had she? No. I pushed that thought away. She would never have left me here by myself. Where was FeatherFlight? If she hadn't left me, then must have been taken. But by who? One word popped into my mind, the only enemy we have ever had. BranchWorm.
I began to panic as I called for Rasha.
"What! What is it!?" He said alarmed in his raspy old voice.
"FEATHERFLIGHT HAS BEEN TAKEN BY BRANCHWORM!!!" I screeched.
"Well... not my problem. Good luck finding her!" He said as he walked off.
"Wait, where are you going?" I nervously fidgeted.
"...um..to bed.. so bye." He groggily muttered.
Then, I heard ever so slightly, 'If one of BranchWorm's trackers got her, she's as good as dead.' Just then, almost all of my hope was extinguished. But not all of it. I darted out of Rasha's nest and flew towards BranchWorm's nest.  I can't let her die. I can't let her die, was all I could think. I felt responsible for her. Plus she has saved my life before. I could never live with myself if BranchWorm tested on her. All these thoughts made me fly faster than ever before.
